The 2026 NSSA National Youth Sailing Championships continued to gather momentum at Downs Sailing Club as two contrasting days of racing tested competitors with everything from tactical fleet racing to fast-paced team competition.

El Jaleo, representing the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club and skippered by Gonzalo Chávarri, has claimed overall victory in the 7th edition of the Armada Cup – Plymouth – Donostia / San Sebastián – Memorial Vicente Munilla.

The two-day event on Stewartby Lake tested the single-handed fleet with highly tactical inland conditions. The wind was notionally from the NNE but appeared to swing around from a number of other directions.

Tuesday’s (21st July) race, the second of the five race series, was very much like Monday’s race for most with the same gentle benign northerly wind with a south going tide, and the same winners in each class.
